Growing your own vegetables helps you to eat seasonal fresh vegetables and really appreciate which season vegetables taste best in. How’s that for natural?
First of all we need to understand when the vegetables are ready to harvest.
May is the month in which we finally get more from the garden than just the few bits that survived the winter temperatures. It’s the month of broad beans, peas, chickpeas and green beans.
Of course, spinach, chard, rocket, celery, asparagus, fennel and carrots are all still there to pick too.
In this month the first courgette’ flowers and new potatoes will also be ready and from the end of the month plenty of what we know as “summer fruits” such as nectarines, apricots, strawberries and cherries will be ripe for picking.
Chill a bit in this season and appreciate all these new varieties to add to your recipes of the month!
And check the calendar to know more!
Enjoy, life is for cooking!
